The New Rolex Cellini Dual Time

Rolex has revamped their Cellini line and launched a new Dual Time among other creations for 2014. The Cellini collection has, for true Rolex aficionados, been the apex of classic watchmaking from Rolex. Normally, the Swiss brand has made robust timepieces for both men and women like the popular Submariner, and the Oyster Perpetual series. The Cellini represents a new side to Rolex, where it has confidently thrown down the gauntlet and redefined the concept of the refined timepiece.

The concept of the Cellini watch goes back to the renaissance and is named after Benavenuto Cellini – the acclaimed goldsmith and sculptor to the popes.

The Rolex Cellini Dual Time comes in either 18kt everose or white gold. The model featured here is sculpted from 18kt everose gold and is offered in a case diameter of 39mm. The two tiered bezel is fluted and then rises gently to a polished finish, an inverse aesthetic design to conventional Rolex models. The prominent main crown is flattened and ridged, enabling the easy setting and winding of this gorgeous timepiece.

This Rolex timepiece is outfitted with a dark brown alligator leather strap, secured using a classic pin buckle clasp. The case back is screwed in and features the fluted edge that is a veritable trademark of Rolex timepieces. The case back is also domed, paying homage to an era in watchmaking where the design elements were more commonplace.

The dial of the watch tells its own story with its Rayon de Flammé de la Gloire guilloche design. This dial motif complements the fluted design of the bezel very well. Indexes mark the hours, with the iconic Rolex emblem at the 12 position. On an internal scale are the minute markers, comprised of both Arabic numerals in intervals of fives and indexes. The hands are dauphine shaped and are crafted from 18kt everose gold. At the 6 position is the second time zone, which comes in the form of a small clock equipped with an hour and minute hand and a day/night indicator at the 9 position on the subdial.
