Introducing the Zenith El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing

Zenith has released their latest timepiece – the Zenith El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing to celebrate their continued partnership with the Spindrift Racing team – a group involved in trimaran sailboat racing. The Spindrift Racing Team has set numerous records as it gears up for the upcoming “Route du Rhum” – the legendary solo trans-atlantic race that takes place every four years.

The masculine 45 mm case features a unidirectional rotating bezel with an aluminum disk. These timepieces stand tall at around 14.10 mm thick. Zenith has released the watch in two different options – 18kt rose gold, and DLC titanium. The rose gold edition features a black dial, while the completely black DLC variation comes with a carbon fiber dial. The matte black DLC coating not only makes the watch appealing, but it also makes the watch very resistant to scratches.

This is the first Stratos model to feature an aperture at 10 o’clock with the opening onto the escapement. There are two chronograph counters, the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. While the chrono-wseconds are indicated using a central hand. The inscription “Spindrift Racing” on the internal bezel, and the team logo engraved on the oscillating weight symbolizes the connection between this awesome sports watch and the partnership with the Spindrift Racing team. Along the flange is a telemeter, which is used to calculate distance using visible and audible phenomena.

The Zenith El Primero Stratos Sprindrift Racing watch contains the manufacture El Primero caliber 4061 automatic chronograph movement. The movement beats at  36,000 vibrations per hour, which means the mechanism measures time with an accuracy of up to 1/10th of a second. This movement is equipped with a lever and an escape-wheel made from silicon. Silicon is much harder and lighter than steel, which makes it both resistant to wear and tear and less energy intensive, due to its low friction coefficient. Silicon is also amagnetic, which helps the movement defend against damage from magnetic fields. This timepiece from Zenith is fitted with a column wheel and provides around 50 hours of power reserve. The watch is water resistant up to 100 meters. Another fantastic addition to the watch is the use of a fabric-clad rubber strap, which is secured using a triple-blade folding clasp.
