The New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 42mm For 2014

The king of the luxury sports watch – the Royal Oak Offshore from Audemars Piguet. The Offshore was first released in 1992 as a larger version to the hugely successful Royal Oak, which was released to the world 20 years earlier in 1972. For 2014, there are 6 new models that have been introduced into the collection. These models replace some of the existing ones but with redesigns that make them sleeker and generally more aesthetically appealing.

The case size comes in 42mm, which is about 2mm smaller than the regular models. This isn’t the first time that AP has made this particular series in a 42mm diameter but most pundits believe that reintroducing this size especially now that oversized watch diameters are becoming less fashionable.

These 6 new additions come with 4 in stainless steel, and 2 in 18kt rose gold. Today, Watch Marvel will focus on the stainless steel versions. These include a navy and white, black and red, grey on grey, and the ever popular ‘Safari’ dial. Each of the versions in steel are fitted with an alligator leather strap with the exception of one which is on rubber. These watches are water resistant to 100 meters.

AP has replaced the rubber coated pushers and main crown with those made entirely from ceramic. This move really sets these watches apart especially for the connoisseur of the brand. Another brilliant move by Audemars Piguet is the inclusion of sapphire crystal case backs where the in house caliber 3126 self-winding mechanical movement can be admired. As with all self-winding Audemars Piguet watches, the oscillating rotor is crafted from 22kt gold.

The dial carries the iconic Mega-Tapisserie motif, which is notably hand crafted on each and every dial. These dials carry oversized Arabic numerals and a large date aperture at the 3 o’clock position. On the flange is a tachometric scale, which can calculate the average speed over a given distance. These watches are guaranteed for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase.
