Roger Dubuis Unveils the Hommage Chronograph and Automatic at SIHH

The Roger Dubuis Hommage collection honors the man who started this ultra-exclusive brand – Mr. Roger Dubuis. This year at SIHH in Geneva, Switzerland, Roger Dubuis released two watches from the Hommage collection in a three hand automatic and a chronograph version.

There were other releases from the Hommage series but these watches represent the entry level and therefore deserve special mention. It is also worth mentioning that the term ‘entry level’ doesn’t paint an accurate picture when it comes to Roger Dubuis as the average prices of their watches are usually over USD $100,000.

Both the Hommage Automatic and the Hommage Chronograph come in two versions – 18kt pink gold, and 18kt white gold. The case is wonderfully polished revealing a watch that is as stunning as it is legible. The prominent main crown is satin finished for good contrast. The sapphire crystal case back carries the metallised signature of Roger Dubuis, which pays homage to this great watchmaker. Both timepieces feature a 42mm case.

The dials, at a glance, appear to be very similar with the guilloche charcoal grey dial and pink gold Roman numeral hour markers. The pink gold hands are leaf shaped and are rather large enhancing the readability. The sole difference between the aesthetics of the two watches comes in the number of the subdials on the dial. The automatic version has a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. The chronograph edition carries two counters – a small seconds at 9, and a chrono minutes at 3. A raised minute ring is located on the flange, which breaks at the 12 position for the name of the brand.

Both models are powered by in house self-winding movements. Officially, the automatic carries the RD620, while the chronograph is fitted with the RD680. The remarkable thing about both of these movements is the micro-rotor that they carry. The miniaturized rotor is made from tungsten, which is a very dense metal and so remains efficient despite its size. These watches carries a power reserve of 52 hours and offer 30 meters of water resistance.
