Montblanc Shines With The Stars At The Oscars

Montblanc was featured on the wrists of Director Steve McQueen, and Nominee for Best Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor. Both of these artists worked on the revolutionary film ’12 Years a Slave’, which snagged the coveted Best Picture award. Steve McQueen wore the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Open Hometime Timepiece, while Chiwetel Ejiofor wore the Star Date Automatic also from Montblanc.

The Nicolas Rieussec Open Hometime was just one of the many exciting releases this year at SIHH from this up and coming horological star. Today, WatchMarvel will take a close look at the watch that graced the wrist of the man that brought us 12 Years a Slave – the Nicolas Rieussec Open Hometime.

This timepiece is crafted from stainless steel, which has been polished to a fine finish. The case measures in at 43mm, excluding the main crown and chrono pushers. The height of this piece is 15mm tall. This Nicolas Rieussec, like all others in the collection, carries a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. This timepiece is water resistant to 30 meters (3 bars). This model is outfitted with a black alligator leather strap. The case back is made from sapphire crystal, which reveals the sublimely stunning movement.

Driving the Nicolas Rieussec Open Hometime is a self-winding mechanical movement – the caliber Montblanc MB R210. This movement carries a balance wheel, which keeps precise time through its 28,800 vibrations each hour. This model boasts a minimum of 72 hours for its power reserve when fully wound.

The partially skeletonized dial uses an off center dial displaying the minutes, hours, and seconds. Around the main timekeeping dial are tiny apertures, which display the Hometime or second time zone. This complication uses a rotating disc as is used by the chronograph. Rotating discs were the preferred method of indication by watchmaking legend Nicolas Rieussec.
