Introducing The Roger Dubuis Velvet Haute Joaillerie

When one comes across the term Haute Horlogerie, one thinks about tourbillons, grande complications, minute repeaters, and even perpetual calendars. However, when one thinks about Roger Dubuis, it is safe to assume that each model released by this brand is an example of Haute Horlogerie. The Velvet collection perhaps is more an example of Haute Joaillerie with both its case body and dial bedecked in diamonds.

Naturally for a brand with the pedigree of Roger Dubuis, the diamonds used are going to be of the highest quality. The diamonds are IF (Internally Flawless) – VVS1 (Very Very Slightly Included 1) clarity and carry a Top Wesselton color range (F-G). The diamonds carry a total weight of 11.26 carats.

There are 136 baguette cut diamonds with a weight of 5.99 carats on the case. These diamonds are pave set for maximum brilliance. On the dial are a further 136 baguette cut diamonds (4.15ct) also pave set. The flange carries 64 round brilliant diamonds totaling just under a quarter carat. One large diamond is set into the crown revealing the pavilion and culet. Finishing the gem-setting are 2 large ocean blue cushion cut sapphires at either end of the case.

The case is made from 18kt pink gold and is shaped in a unique ‘trompe l’oeil’ design. This design is a mixture of both round and tonneau shapes, which gives the watch a robust look. The case diameter comes in at 36mm, which is large and gives excellent wrist presence on the feminine wrist. Complementing the sapphire stones is a luxurious black satin strap.

Powering the Roger Dubuis Velvet Haute Horlogerie is the self-winding mechanical movement caliber RD821. This movement like every other in house made movement from Roger Dubuis boasts the Hallmark of Geneva – the most prestigious accreditation in Swiss watchmaking. The movement features a full 48 hours of power reserve when fully wound. This model is water resistant to 30 meters.
