The Vulcain Aviator DLC

The Vulcain Aviator DLC is a powerful instrument crafted for those who are inspired by flight. This model was released earlier this year in Baselworld and has since received a lot5 of attention for its exceptional readability and easy-to-use features.

Fashioned from DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) stainless steel, this timepiece is structurally tough while maintaining a rugged aesthetic. Adorning the watch is a brown leather strap with white contrast stitching, and is secured with a pin buckle clasp. I love the push button layout on this watch with the pusher at 2 in the traditional T style, and the pushpiece at 4 is flattened and ridged for a better tactile experience. Between these two pushers is the main crown, which is ridged to easily set the date and the time. The Aviator DLC is water resistant to 100 meters or 10 ATM.

With respect to the dial, it is black to complement the case and it features cream colored Arabic numeral hour markers and luminous, sword shaped hands made from black steel for optimal legibility at night. On the generously sized flange is a minutes/seconds scale. The really amazing feature that sets this watch apart is the unique continuous seconds counter at the 9 position, which is in an “Alarm Flag” theme – a feature found on many radio altimeter cockpit instruments. The chronograph counters appear at 6 and 3, displaying the chronograph hours and minutes respectively. Highlighted is the chrono-minutes register, which is bordered in a cream color, and is further highlighted by two black steel screws at its poles. Completing the dial design is the date aperture at the 6 o’clock position.

The Vulcain Aviator DLC is driven by an accurate Swiss made self-winding mechanical caliber V-59. This movement is based on the Valjoux 7753 caliber, and as such it vibrates at 28,800 alternations per hour , and it carries an autonomy of 48 hours. The oscillating mass is openworked revealing a glimpse of the movement as a whole. This mechanical symphony is visible through the exhibition sapphire caseback. As if all of this wasn’t amazing enough, this spectacular timepiece is limited in production to just 100 examples worldwide.
