The New Vintage 1965 From Zenith

Zenith began its life in Le Locle in the canton of Neuchatel, Switzerland under George Favre-Jacot when he was just 22 years old. The year was 1865 and George set out to create a company that prided itself on creating watchmaking excellence. With 1565 1st place prizes for precision, the brand has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is indeed at the zenith of the game.

The New Vintage 1965 is a stunning concept that has its roots in a timepiece that was released back in 1965. The 1960’s version was only available in precious metals (yellow, white, rose gold), today’s model is sculpted from stainless steel making this model much more accessible that its predecessor and other perfectly square watches like Piaget’s Altiplano. The New Vintage 1965 measures 32x32mm and carries a case thickness of just 10.5mm making this watch pretty thin.

The bezel is wide and holds securely a highly scratch resistant sapphire crystal that has been glare proofed on both sides.  The main crown is ridged allowing for greater dexterity when setting the time and date. Sapphire crystal is used also on the case back of the New Vintage 1965 showing off the precise Swiss made automatic movement. The oscillating weight is decorated with a Cotes de Genève design and proudly displays the brand’s logo a five pointed star.

The dial is slate grey while the faceted hands and indexes are rhodium plated making them exceptionally shiny and therefore contrasting wonderfully against the dial. Neither the hands nor the hour markers use any lume. The date aperture is located at the 4:30 position. The New Vintage 1965 uses a black alligator strap with a classic pin buckle to secure this model. This model is water resistant to 30 meters and is backed by a manufacturer’s guarantee valid for 2 years from the date of purchase.
