The New Longines 24 Hours Single Pushpiece Chronograph

The Longines 24 Hours Single Pushpiece Chronograph from the Heritage collecton is the hot topic right now.  This new timepiece isn’t really new at all but is inspired by one of their creations from the 1950’s. Longines is one of the oldest watch manufacturers still in operation with its almost two centuries’ long history. As such, it is no surprise that for the Heritage collection, Longines has many options to call on for inspiration. A little known bit of trivia about this brand from St. Imier, Switzerland is that Longines’ logo is the oldest trademark still in its original form.

Longines has chosen to keep many of the aesthetic details the same like the case diameter for instance, which stands at 47.5mm. If this may seem large today, imagine what it would’ve been like in the 1950’s when case sizes hardly went over 41 or 42mm. This model is crafted from stainless steel with both brushed and polished accents. The prominent main crown features the single pushpiece that controls the chronograph. The chronograph is a bit limited in its scope, being able to only time events up to 60 seconds. The case back is solid, though I think I would’ve preferred an exhibition case back on this model.

The dial comes in two versions – either black or white. The alligator leather strap also comes in two options – black or brown, depending on the case color. Black dial with the black leather, and white dial on the brown strap. The hands are feuille shaped blued steel indicating the time and 60-second stopwatch. At 18 o’clock is the small seconds counter, while at 12 o’clock is the date aperture.

The Longines 24 Hour Single Pushpiece Chronograph is powered by an exclusive movement the L789 self-winding chronograph mechanism. In this movement is a column wheel mechanism that allows for a more precise chronograph experience by nullifying the slight jump when this complication is activated. All in all, I’d have to say this watch is pretty cool and I’m a little curious to see how in performs in the retail world.
