The Louis Moinet Vertalor

Acclaimed watchmaker Louis Moinet has released the Vertalor, a timepiece that perfectly expresses the brand’s desire for horological excellence. From its aesthetically magnificent case to its pièce de résistance – a tourbillon suspended from three bridges made in gold, the Louis Moinet Vertalor is designed with nothing but an almost obsessive attention to detail. The Vertalor was launched this year in celebration of the brand’s 10th anniversary.

These timepieces come in two versions – 18kt white gold, and 18kt rose gold. Both iterations will be released in limited series of just 28 pieces each. The case is comprised of an astounding 59 individual parts, which was designed by Louis Moinet himself. The cases are made oversized with a diameter of 47mm, guaranteeing superior wrist presence. The case back is secured with 6 screws that flow into the exhibition styled sapphire case back. The case back also features the individual number (XX/28). The Vertalors are fitted with genuine hand-sewn Louisiana alligator leather straps that fit between the 24mm lugs, and are secured by Louis Moinet customized double deployant clasps in either white gold or rose gold depending on the model. Water resistance stands at 30 meters for these models.

The intricate black dials feature a guilloche design in a Côtes de Jura design, which works well with the open barrel design at 12, and the tourbillon aperture at 12. The faceted hour markers, as well as the Gouttes de Rose, or Dew Drop hands, are luminous. Also luminous is the small seconds hand over the 60 second tourbillon at 6. This hand carries an interesting star motif which was designed by Moinet and used in his famous Julius Caesar clock. At the center of the dial is a fragment of a meteor, as if everything else about this watch wasn’t mind-blowing enough. Completing the dial is the Fleur-de-Lis insignia of Louis Moinet.

The movement is manual wound and carries an ‘Octopus’ balance spring. The escapement is of the side lever variety, which speaks volumes about the brand’s desire to differentiate itself and stand in the ranks of Haute Horlogerie. Oscillations are 21,600 VpH, while autonomy is no less than 72 hours. Mirroring the dial, the movement is decorated with a Côtes de Jura pattern.
