The Bell & Ross 126 Blackbird Flyback Chronograph

No list of fine watchmaking is complete without the inclusion of Bell & Ross. For years Bell & Ross has wowed us with their leaps in innovation and solid designs since their launch in the 90’s. The BR 126 Blackbird is fashioned after the Lockheed Martin SR-71 Blackbird spy plane with its radar absorbing black matte exterior and exceptional functionality.

At first glance, the movement on the Blackbird is set up like a Valjoux 7750 but that is where the similarities end. It is in fact an ETA 2892 with a Dubois Depraz module. The chronograph is unique as it features both central seconds and minutes, with the hour register on subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock. At 3 o’clock are the continuous seconds and at 9 is an AM/PM dual time indicator. The chronograph hands are highlighted in orange while the timekeeping indicators are in black with a luminous coating.

The chronograph also features a handy Flyback function. Flyback chronographs negate the need to stop and return to zero. A Flyback chronograph can make quick successive recordings and are very useful while flying. There is a neat date display window at the 4:30 position and a tachometric scale on the flange.

This model comes with a 43mm case made from stainless steel with black PVD. This model comes with 2 straps – an orange canvas strap and a black rubber strap. Both straps are secured with a classic tang type buckle in black PVD stainless steel. The Blackbird is released in a limited production of 500 pieces worldwide. Naturally for a chronograph of this stature, the dial window uses domed sapphire crystal that has been made anti-reflective on both sides, thus reducing glare. This fine timepiece is water resistant to a depth of 100 meters (10 ATM) and carries a two year international warranty. The Bell & Ross 126 Blackbird retails for just under USD $7,000.
