Patek Philippe Grand Complication Reference #5013P

Patek Philippe, as only Patek can, delivers this phenomenal timepiece. The Patek Philippe Reference #5013P first graced the world stage in 1992, but is as timeless and spectacular today as when it was first launched.

The case of this timepiece is crafted from 925 platinum and features an angled tonneau shape. The platinum is highly polished, which sets up nicely against the jet black crocodile leather strap. Securing this watch is a tang type buckle, also made from platinum. Dimensions for this watch come in at 36mm wide by 46.4mm tall. The case back features an interchangeable solid plate. At the 9 position on the case is the minute repeater’s lever for on demand activation of this complication.

The dial is off-white with rhodium-toned Arabic numeral appliques, and a day and a month aperture replacing the numerals at the 9 and 3 positions, respectively. Just below the 12 position is yet another aperture, but this one reveals the year as it corresponds to the four-year leap cycle. The date is displayed through a retrograde central dial, indicated by a rhodium toned Breguet styled hand. At the 6 position is a small seconds counter, which shares its space with a moon phase indicator that runs on the traditional 29 ½ day period. Around this masterpiece of a dial, along the flange, runs a railroad minute track.

Powering this watch is an automatic caliber with 48 hours of power reserve and 41 jewels. This watch is classified as a Grand Complication as it contains a complication from each of the major complication groups. Contrary to popular belief, a watch does not need to possess a tourbillon to be classified as a Grand Complication. This watch does feature an astronomical complication (moon phase), a calendar complication (perpetual calendar), and a chiming complication (minute repeater).
