Maurice LaCroix’s Masterpiece: The Phase De Lune

Few collections have won the world like the Masterpiece Collection from Maurice LaCroix. These watches are the crown jewels of this comparatively young watch brand. Maurice LaCroix makes the movements for the Masterpiece collection in their own workshops near Saignelegier, Switzerland. This achievement puts Maurice LaCroix in a very elite group of Swiss manufacture watchmakers.

The Phase de Lune from Maurice LaCroix is a fine example of Haute Horlogerie. This gent’s watch comes in both steel and a bimetal version. Maurice LaCroix also offers a stainless steel bracelet as an alternate to the black or brown calf crocodile leather. The case carries dimensions of 40mm in diameter excluding the main crown. The case also boasts a new bezel and case back design which represents a distinct upgrade from the older version. The main crown is textured for easy adjustments to the time. Adjusting the moon phase, day, and month are made easy with correctors located at the 2, 4, and 8 positions.

Powering this watch is the self-winding Swiss made Cal. ML37 which has a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement beats at 4 Hertz and is adjusted at 3 different positions. Decorating the movement is a snail finishing which is hand engraved.

This model, as the name suggests, has a moon phase indicator located in a vaulted window at the 6 o’clock position. This moon phase complication works off of a 29.5 day cycle. This model also features a large date dial that rings just below the hour track and is indicated by a central pointer. The Phase de Lune carries another two apertures just below the 12 position revealing the day and the month.

The dial is white and has a velvety finish with hands that are diamond cut and are coated with SLNC 1 for readability at night. The hour markers are applied and also feature an SLNC 1 coating. This handsome timepiece uses anti-reflective scratch resistant sapphire crystal for the dial window ensuring the aesthetic appeal of this watch is maintained. The Phase de Lune from Maurice LaCroix is made water resistant to 30 meters or 3 ATM.
