Jaquet Droz L’Eclipse Onyx

I’ll first start by saying that the Jaquet Droz L’Eclipse Onyx isn’t new on the market but its style and clean lines makes it worthy of special mention on our site today. With so many versions of the Grande Seconde out there, it is refreshing to see a classic dial layout from Jaquet Droz. L’Eclipse Onyx or The Eclipse Onyx comes from the Majestic Beijing collection.

This model is made from highly polished stainless steel, fitted with a double tier bezel for a dress look. The bezel holds securely a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with a glare proof treatment. The case comes in dimensions of 43mm (a size used by many contemporary watchmakers, seen as a size in between oversized and large). The watch rises off of the wrist only 12.44mm for the case height.

This timepiece from Jaquet Droz features a ridged main crown for easy setting of the time and calendar functions. The Eclipse Onyx is outfitted with a black alligator leather strap. Water resistance on this watch stands at 30 meters or 3 bars, which is functional for a dress watch.

The dial is laden with complications but still retains an uncluttered layout. The dial is jet black with rhodium toned hands and modest index hour markers along the flange. The date is indicated using a central swizzle shaped hand. Just below the 12 position are two separate apertures displaying the day of the week and the month.

At 6 o’clock is a beautiful moon phase display complete with accompanying depictions of stars. This artistic complication uses a black hand with a circular tip that covers the moon in stages to represent the different phases. This hand uses a retrograde format for maximum efficiency.

The Jaquet Droz L’Eclipse Onyx is powered with an accurate, Swiss made self-winding movement.
