The IWC Ingenieur Dual Time – Now In Stainless Steel

Though this year has been the year of the Aquatimer, IWC has just released a couple more additions to the Ingenieur line. In particular, the Ingenieur Dual Time has been re-launched, only this time in stainless steel. The new Ingenieurs are more robust and while still maintaining the classic look that Gerald Genta instilled in the design. 2013 saw many new changes to the Ingenieur lineup, but 2014 carries with it a bit of refinement to this superb collection from IWC.

As stated before this new model is crafted in stainless steel as opposed to the original dual time, which was forged from titanium. This model instead of a rubber strap is fitted on a tapered 3-link bracelet system, which uses a folding clasp for security.

Most of the new Ingenieurs carry a 45mm case diameter, but the Dual Time is slightly smaller coming in at 43mm for its diameter (exclusive of the main crown). For a GMT watch, the Ingenieur is a bit thick with its 13.5mm case height. Naturally, the 5-hole bezel – one of the defining features on the Ingenieur series is maintained. The case back is solid on this model.

Inside the watch is the self-winding caliber 35720, made in Switzerland. This automatic movement features a standard 42 hour power reserve. This movement allows the GMT hour hand to be adjusted by one hour either forwards or backwards using the main crown. As with many other IWC models, the IWC Ingenieur Dual Time features hacking seconds, which means that the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled out.

These watches come in two dial versions – silver plated, and black. Both models feature Arabic numerals at the 12 and 6 positions with indexes being used for the remaining hour markers. On the flange is the 24 hour scale, which is read for the second time zone. The hour and minute hands are rhodium toned with lume for nighttime readability. There is a date aperture at the 3 positionon this timepiece. The GMT hand is differentiated by its red tip. The IWC Ingenieur Dual Time in stainless steel is set to hit stores in a couple of months.
