The IWC Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic

Even though 2013 was the year of the Ingenieur, IWC has released a stunning addition to this prolific collection. This timepiece with the official name of the IWC Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic is limited to just 1000 pieces worldwide.

What separates this model from other Ingenieur watches is its carbon fiber case and polished black ceramic bezel, main crown, and crown guard. This IWC model is outfitted with a black rubber strap with a black calf skin inlay, and it features an intense green contrast stitching along the edges. The main crown is screwed in, which enables the 120 Bar water resistance. The case back is exhibition style made from sapphire crystal, which reveals the state of the art self-winding movement. The IWC Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic comes in dimensions of 46mm in diameter, and rides relatively high on the wrist with a 14.5mm case height.

To match the case, the dial is also crafted from carbon fiber. It features Arabic numeral markers at the 12 and 6 positions, with indexes at the other positions. Both the hands and the markers used to indicate the time are coated with lume for readability at night. A date aperture resides at the 3 position. On the flange is a minutes or seconds scale hued in green, which stand out nicely against the dial. Protecting the dial is a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, which has been glare-proofed on both sides.

The movement powering this IWC timepiece is an in house 80110 caliber, which features the ingenious Pellaton winding system. This type of winding system is extremely efficient as it winds the mainspring with rotations in either direction. The movement also carries a 44 hour power reserve, and uses hacking seconds, which is used for precise time setting. The movement is decorated with perlage and ribbed Côte Circulaires on the bridges.
