Introducing The Mido Baroncelli Small Seconds For Gents

From Mido comes the Baroncelli Small Seconds for Gents. This timepiece is made from stainless steel, which has been treated with rose gold PVD. PVD or Phosphor Vapor Deposition is a groundbreaking technique that bonds the rose gold to the stainless steel at a molecular level. One of the major benefits of PVD is that the metal becomes stronger and is less prone to surface scratches.

Mido was established in 1918 and has been popular with many over the subsequent years with their designs and affordable price points. The brand has also been prolific in the arena of tennis, sponsoring some of the world’s most memorable stars.

The case is smaller than most gent’s watches, coming in at 38mm. The case back is crafted from sapphire crystal, which allows the wearer to admire the elaborate and masterfully assembled movement. On the opposite end, the dial window is also made from sapphire crystal, which is used to defend against nicks and scratches. Standing at 9 on the MoH’s Scale, sapphire, which is classified as a corundum, can only be scratched by a diamond or another sapphire. The strap used on this model is a black crocodile leather.

The dial employs a sunray guilloche effect, which adds a measure of sophistication to the Baroncelli Small Seconds. The Roman numeral indexes are blue, contrasting beautifully against the dial. The small seconds counter can be found at the 6 position, while a date aperture appears at the 3 position. The hands are dauphine shaped and are rose gold toned, which also contrast nicely against the dial for enhanced readability.

This timepiece is driven by the self-winding caliber ETA 2825-2, made entirely in Switzerland. This movement features 25 jewels and vibrates at a frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour. The balance wheel is made from Glucydur a highly antimagnetic material. The movement carries a shock absorption system and a Nivaflex mainspring. The watch is fitted with a 38 hour power reserve and 50 meters worth of water resistance.
