Hermes was founded in 1837 as a Parisian saddle shop under Thierry Hermes. The company grew quickly and after winning many awards for design and innovation, the brand started making handbags and scarves. By the 1950’s, Hermes introduced a line of watches which were an instant success. Hermes, as a brand, was becoming a force in luxury with its Avant Garde designs and high quality manufacturing. Today, Hermes carries the full line of luxury goods and has an adoring following. Hermes has been so prolific that it is estimated that an Hermes scarf is purchased somewhere in the world every 11 seconds.
The Clipper line from Hermes is by far one of their better sellers with its strong lines and attention to detail. This watch is made from stainless steel with the case band made from Titanium, and is fitted with a rubber strap for use as a sailing watch. The Clipper Sport carries a 41mm diameter and features a brushed bezel reminiscent of the portholes of 19th century sailing ships with the 6 rivets in relief. The bezel is unidirectional and rotates counterclockwise with a luminous marker at the 12 o’clock position.
The movement on this model is naturally Swiss Automatic and features a 42 hour power reserve. The dial is rhodiumed with a ‘rays of the sun’ motif on the opaline center. Large black Arabic numerals mark the hours and ensure optimum readability. Superluminova can be found on the silver toned sword shaped hands and on the minute track on the flange also marking the hours. The seconds hand is in orange as well as the triangular marker pointing the date on the retrograde shaped date aperture at 3 o’clock. The orange rubber strap is marked with an ‘H’ for Hermes and is outfitted with a double release safety clasp in steel. The Hermes Clipper Sport Orange is water resistant to a depth of 10 ATM (100 meters).
