Glashütte Original Introduces the Senator Manual Winding Skeleton Watch

Glashütte Original has recently released a new addition to the Senator collection coming in the form of a manual wound skeleton watch. If this doesn’t peak your interest – don’t despair. The truth is there are literally hundreds of models out there employing hand wound movements visible through a skeletonized dial, but there are none that have done so as spectacularly as Glashütte Original in this Senator model.

Recently, there has been a flurry of ornately engraved cases coming from top brands like Patek Phillipe, and Jaeger-LeCoultre. This model uses a myriad of finishes such as the aforementioned engraving, and both beveled and polished edges. Glashütte Original also uses blued steel screws and a hand finished Swan Neck regulator for making fine adjustments in terms of accuracy. The caliber used in this timepiece is the 49-18. This movement carries an autonomy of 40 hours.

Every hour the balance wheel oscillates 28,800 times enhancing the precision of this watch. An Incabloc system protects this intricate movement from shocks. The 49-18 hand wound movement features 5 screw mounted gold chatons, which is a virtual trademark of Glashütte’s watchmaking. Ensuring that the movement is visible from both sides are two anti-reflective sapphire crystals.

The Glashütte Original Senator Manual Winding Skeleton Watch is cased in 18kt rose gold and fitted with a black Louisiana alligator leather strap and 18kt rose gold pin buckle clasp. The gold is highly polished adding the dressy aesthetic of this timepiece. The main crown is ridged allowing for easy winding and setting. The case measures in at 42mm in diameter.

The dial, apart from being totally open worked, features printed black Roman numerals for the hour markers and a modest railroad track minute scale. At the 6 position Glashütte Original proudly labels this timepiece as being “Made in Germany”. Completing the dial aesthetics are the minute and hour hands made from blued steel, which offers a good contrast resulting in excellent legibility of the time.
