Eterna Heritage Super KonTiki Limited Edition 1973

Wrapped in a retro design the Eterna Heritage Super KonTiki Limited Edition 1973 pays homage yet again to the exploration of Thor Heyerdahl who traveled across the Pacific on nothing but a raft named the KonTiki back in 1947. This was in an attempt to prove that indigenous people could travel far distances on primitive sea craft. This Eterna timepiece is limited in its production to 1,973 numbered pieces.

Many of the aesthetics of this model are taken from the 1950’s like the tonneau case shape around the circular dial, and most importantly the meshed bracelet, which was used by many seafarers and divers throughout that era. The bracelet features a diving extension so that it may fit on a wetsuit.

The case is made from stainless steel, polished to a fine finish. The diameter stands at 44mm, while the case height comes in at a modest 13.7mm. The unidirectional bezel is black with rhodium toned Arabic numeral markers. At the 12 position on the bezel is a luminous orange triangle. This type of bezel allows for the measurement of elapsed time – a useful feature for divers.

The case back is screwed in, which helps to maintain the 200 meters/660 feet water resistance. On the case back is the KonTiki medallion and the limited number (XXXX/1973). The Eterna Heritage Super KonTiki Limited Edition 1973 carries a highly scratch resistant sapphire crystal that protects the dial.

The black dial is completely uncluttered and offers exceptional readability both during the day and at night thanks to the lume on the hands and baton hour markers. At the 6 position is a date display aperture.

The movement powering this cool watch is the ETA 2824-2 self-winding mechanical caliber. This movement features 25 jewels and vibrates at 28,800 alternations per hour. The power reserve on this model is 38 hours when fully wound.
