Daniel Strom Creates the Memento Mori, Carpe Diem from the Agonium Collection

Son of renowned Swiss watchmaker Armin Strom, Daniel Strom shows us his dark side with his new creation Memento Mori, Carpe Diem. This phrase directly translates to “Remember you will die, so seize the day.”

There are many mixed reviews concerning this new collection, but one thing remains certain, the level of workmanship in these timepieces is incredible. These watches are offered in four options – sterling silver, 18kt red gold, palladium and platinum. There is yet another option where you can add diamonds to the palladium edition. If these options still don’t do it for you, you can have the watch custom made, detailing your specifications.

Each of these versions are limited in production, with the sterling silver iteration being the most plentiful at 88 pieces. The 18kt red gold, and palladium are offered in a limited amount of 44 examples, while the platinum, and palladium with diamonds are both produced in limited quantities of 12 pieces each.

These watches are offered with your choice of white or black ridged alligator. Uniquely, these timepieces feature skulls, which Daniel Strom says represents vanity on the crown and lugs. The rest of the case carries a checkered open-worked design, with natural oxidation occurring on the sterling silver edition, making for a very interesting gothic aesthetic.

The dial comes in a bone white or a jet black hue, and it uses aesthetic markers from two of the world’s most beloved clocks – the Big Ben from London, England; and the Zytglogge in Bern, Switzerland. The dial also uses highly stylized Roman numeral appliques for their hour markers. The hands are equally distinguishing and are quite ornate, which fits in perfectly with the overall aesthetic from this timepiece from Strom.

Seen through the exhibition case back is an ETA 2824 self-winding movement that powers this timepiece. The Strom Memento Mori, Carpe Diem is water resistant to 50 meters.
