Introducing the Chopard Happy Sport Medium Automatic

There are some watches that are just works of art, where all of the small details are taken into account and mastered. The Chopard Happy Sport Medium Automatic is such a creation. When I look at the watch, I am hard pressed to find a genuine fault or an oversight on the part of Chopard. So I’ll just go ahead and say “well done, Chopard”.

With that out of the way, we can look at some of the attributes that make this watch so special. Firstly, it is important to note that this watch comes in a stainless steel iteration as well but we’ll be examining the 18kt rose gold version for this review.

The watch, as its name suggests, is mid-sized with case dimensions of 36mm, so there is a great wrist presence for ladies. The case follows the traditional curvature of the Happy Sport line and of course features the prominent lugs that have made this design iconic. The bezel features a single row of perfectly cut round brilliant diamonds, which sparkle and look spectacular when working in tandem with the mobile bezel set diamonds on the dial. Together the diamonds make a total weight of 2.31 carats. The 18kt rose gold bracelet is secured by a deployant clasp.

The dial is clean and, apart from the floating diamonds, is remarkably easy to read. The indexes and smooth, sword shaped hands are all rose gold toned. The central dial carries a subtle guilloche design in a wavy flinqué pattern. The date aperture slots neatly between the 4 and 5 positions. The flange features a railroad minute track in black, which only serves to add to the sophisticated aesthetic of this timepiece. Chopard uses sapphire crystal for the dial covering on the Happy Sport Medium Automatic

The self-winding movement can be readily seen through the transparent exhibition case back also made from sapphire crystal. The movement vibrates at a standard 28,800 VpH or 4 Hz. There are 25 jewels on this beautifully decorated movement. Finally, the water resistance on the Chopard Happy Sport Medium Automatic is rated for 30 meters.
