Bell & Ross Marine BR02-94 Carbon Chronograph

As far as diving watches go, the Bell & Ross Marine BR02 is a stellar example of functionality at its best. The sleek case design is also very easy on the eyes. Though Bell & Ross is famous for producing vintage themed watches, there is nothing vintage about the BR02 chronograph. In fact, it is safe to say that with all of the functions and A Class materials used this watch earns a place in the realm of the truly exceptional.

The Bell & Ross Marine BR02 Chronograph is sculpted from solid, stainless steel which has undergone a black PVD treatment. Phosphor Vapor Deposition is used to strengthen steel and render it more scratch resistant. The color of the steel never fades or chips away as this process bonds the elements at a molecular level. The case is tonneau shaped and offers dimensions of 44mm (exclusive of the main crown and pushers).

To maintain the water resistance of 500 meters, both the main crown and case back are screw locked. At the 10 position is a special pusher designed to adjust the internal unidirectional rotating bezel. Internal bezels are gaining in popularity as this is a safer way to exhibit elapsed time than the conventional external bezels.

Just below the pusher at 9 is an orange helium release valve which stands out nicely against the black background of the case. It is a known phenomenon that helium builds up inside of watches when underwater for long periods of time. The helium release valve allows to gases to escape safely without harming the internal workings of the timepiece.

Each of the elements on the jet black dial is fully coated with luminescence. The minute hand is traced in orange which makes it extremely legible while diving. The chronograph used can time events up to 30 minutes. The chrono minutes subdial occupies the 9 position directly opposite the small seconds counter at the 3 o’clock position. At 4:30 is a very small date aperture. Protecting the dial of the Bell & Ross Marine BR02 Chronograph is a highly scratch resistant sapphire crystal glare proofed on both sides.
