A. Lange & Sohne 1815

This collection is named 1815 after the year that Ferdinand A. Lange was born. Mr. Lange is widely credited with the establishment of the watchmaking center in Glashutte, Germany. Today, Glashutte is renowned for its high level of watchmaking prowess. German watchmaking, especially from the Glashutte region, is easily identified due to its off centered regulator style layout and classic aesthetics. The 1815 boasts a highly dressy case construction.

The watch is made from 18kt rose gold, yellow gold, and white gold. A. Lange & Sohne only uses precious metals for this watch, which serve to underscore the watch’s importance and relevance to the brand’s heritage. The case carries dimensions of 40mm, which is the perfect size for a watch of this caliber. The 1815 rides low on the wrist with a case height of just 8.9mm. The ridged main crown is also made completely from precious metals complementing the case. The bezel is single tiered and houses a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The lugs are cambered, ensuring that maximum comfort is felt while wearing this gorgeous timepiece. The lugs are also fitted with alligator leather in three colors depending on the case material. These straps are secured using pin buckle clasps, which allow for on-the-go adjustments.

The dial is crafted from solid silver and carries applied Arabic numeral hour markers. The hands indicating the hours and minutes are crafted from blued steel. Bluing steel is an age old technique that many of the more established watch manufacturers use. Blued steel is non-ferromagnetic and offers excellent contrast against the silver dial. At the 6 position is a large small seconds counter, which also uses a blued steel indicator. The flange employs a minute scale in a railroad format, adding a level of sophistication to the 1815.

This timepiece is fitted with a mechanical manual winding movement caliber LO51.1. The movement has a ¾ main plate and is crafted from German silver, which takes on a golden hue. As with most other timepieces from A. Lange & Sohne, the 1815’s movement is hand crafted.
