Most watch aficionados know about Ulysse Nardin and their famous Maxi Marine Diver line but the Classico Lady shows a different side to this celebrated watch manufacturer. Normally, one is tempted to exclusively associate Ulysse with works of Haute Horlogerie but this timepiece is right up there with the best any brand can produce in the realm of Haute Joaillerie.
The Ulysse Nardin Classico Lady is meticulously crafted from 18kt white gold. This superlative ladies’ watch is offered in a mid-sized case measuring 35mm across. The prominent main crown features a ring of diamonds and another ring of cabochon cut blue spinel stones, which match the shiny blue alligator leather strap. Securing the strap is a classy ardillon buckle also made from 18kt white gold.
Adorning the bezel are 59 full cut round brilliant diamonds with exceptional color and clarity. The lugs are also set with a further 44 diamonds. This timepiece is water resistant to 50 meters, making this watch great for formal wear but excessive contact with water is ill-advised.
The dial is a work of art in every sense of the term with its depiction of a ‘Hoopoe Bird’ in enamel and diamonds placed in the center of the blue enamel dial. When I first saw the watch I thought that the enameling process used was Cloisonné but upon closer inspection, I think it is Champlevé. The details of the enameling though are somewhat a moot point as this is a gorgeous piece regardless of the technique used. The rhodium toned hands feuille shaped, which only enhances the overall sophistication of this Classico Lady watch from Ulysse Nardin.
Ulysse Nardin equips this fantastic ladies’ watch with a self-winding mechanical movement caliber UN-815, which measures just 11 ½ lignes, and features a total of 25 jewels. The Classico Lady is a pretty amazing, but who would expect less from the watchmaking juggernaut that is Ulysse Nardin.
