The Carrera Calibre 16 comes in two versions; one on rubber and the other with a steel bracelet. The bracelet is alternately brushed and polished while the rubber strap is embossed with a trendy tire design. This is as far as the differences go. Both versions are made in a limited production of 4000 numbered pieces each worldwide. The Carrera Calibre 16 is crafted from stainless steel with case dimensions of 43mm in diameter and it sits flat on the wrist which is a rarity among self-winding chronographs.
The bezel is black and features a tachometric scale which is used to measure average speeds over a given distance. The bezel also holds snugly a curved sapphire crystal which has been glare proofed on both sides ensuring perfect at-a-glance readouts of the time. The exhibition case back also uses sapphire crystal and reveals a highly decorated and accurate Swiss Made movement. The ridged main crown is of the push/pull variety allowing for the easy modifications of the time and the day/date aperture located at the 3 o’ clock position.
The dial is made from anthracite with a ‘rays of the sun’ motif. The chronograph counters found at 12 and 6 are rimmed in white for quick referencing, while the register at 9 counts the running seconds. Yet another ode to the functionality of this watch sees the hour, minute and true seconds hands all in silver tone, whereas the chronograph hands are in red for total and complete ease in readability. The hour markers are hand applied and feature black luminescent lines. This model is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet) and retails for $5600.00.
