TAG Heuer began its illustrious career as a mover and shaker in the watch industry back in 1868 under the hand of Edouard Heuer at St. Imier in Switzerland. Four words have seemed to characterize the brand over the years – Prestige, Performance, Avant Garde Technology, and Absolute Reliability. These concepts can be readily seen in the Monaco 24 Calibre 36 Chronograph.
This Monaco is sculpted from a solid stainless steel case which houses the Calibre 36 movement. This self-winding movement is certified by the COSC as a chronometer. Chronometers are generally regarded as the highest certification for a Swiss Made timepiece (only 5% of watches from Switzerland bear this prestigious accolade).
The movement is visible through the exhibition sapphire crystal case back which reveals an annular oscillating mass with decorative Cotes de Genève designs. This gent’s TAG is outfitted with an advanced dynamic absorber system protecting the movement ensuring this watch keeps on ticking through all conditions.
The dial on this model is blue with trendy grey stripes. Featured on this model is an oversized 24 in Arabic numerals. The importance of the 24 at the 12 o’ clock position is its direct reference to the 24 hour Le Mans race.
The blue dial shows up the red chronograph hand nicely while the hour and minute hands are luminous making for excellent readability at night. The dial also shows off two subdials at the 9 and 3 positions counting off the chronograph minutes and small seconds respectively. Completing the dial is a date aperture at the 6 o’ clock position.
The stainless steel case measures 40.5mm with both brushed and polished finishes adding character to this piece. The bezel houses a beveled sapphire crystal which ranks a 9 on the MoH’s scale of hardness making this crystal incredibly scratch resistant.
The crown is ridged and uses a push/pull system for the adjustment of the date and time. The chronograph pushers found on either side of the main crown are quite prominent but still add an element of sophistication to this model. The Monaco 24 Calibre 36 Chronograph is water resistant to 100 meters (10 atms) making this model an superb choice for an everyday watch.
