In 1860 Edouard Heuer changed the world of watchmaking forever when he opened his workshop in St. Imier, Switzerland. Since then the brand has been prolific in its devotion to innovation and all around horological excellence.
The Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph watch comes in stainless steel that has been coated with finely brushed and polished black Titanium Carbide making for a very aesthetically pleasing timepiece. The Calibre 12 carries case dimensions of 39mm for the diameter which is perfect for most wrist sizes. The bezel is stationary and holds a sapphire crystal which will not scratch unless exposed to another sapphire or a diamond.
The ridged push/pull crown and angled chronograph pushers are set in polished and finely brushed stainless steel which contrasts nicely against the rest of the watch. The chronograph pushers are also outfitted with Titanium Carbide protectors sealing the movement from the entry of moisture or dust. A smoked sapphire crystal is found on the case back evincing the decorated self-winding movement. The ACM (Automobile Club de Monaco) logo is stamped on the exhibition case back.
The dial on the Caliber 12, which uses an ETA 2892 with a Dubois Depraz chrono module, is jet black with black subdials at both 3 and 9 counting the continuous seconds and chronograph minutes respectively. The chronograph seconds hand is crafted from the rare metal rhodium which hails from the platinum line of metals. This hand is tipped in orange adding a sporty look to this sophisticated timepiece. TAG Heuer also uses rhodium in the hand applied, luminous, beveled hour markers which lie just outside a conservative minute track. The TAG Heuer Monaco logo is located at 12 while an angled date display window is shown at the 6 position completing the dial.
The Monaco Caliber 12 Chronograph is made to withstand water pressure at depths of 100 meters (10 bars). Securing this beauty to the wrist is a perforated leather strap with an orange ‘Sahara’ lining. This model retails for $8200.00 exclusively at TAG Heuer boutiques worldwide.
