The Hublot Big Bang All Carbon

Hublot has never been a conventional brand. Since their formation in 1980, the company has always pushed the barriers with their designs and the materials used in those productions. Hublot has made history time and again especially with their Big Bang series and a myriad of limited editions which have honored some of the most iconic people and things known to human history.

Enter the Big Bang All Carbon from Hublot. This model is the first watch in history to use an all carbon fiber case. Carbon fiber is notoriously difficult to work with but through the ground breaking efforts of this ingenious watch manufacturer this incredible piece has been realized.

The carbon fiber case carries dimensions of 44mm for the diameter. The bezel lugs, chronograph pushers, and textured main crown are made from composite black resin. These parts need to be made from a tougher material as they are more prone to handling. This isn’t to say that the case is fragile but the bezel lugs, pushers, and crown stick out from the main case. The fixed bezel showcases 6 H shaped screws made from black PVD titanium, and holds firmly the scratch resistant sapphire crystal which is glare proofed on both sides.

The movement is completely black as well and is comprised of parts made with black PVD steel, ruthenium with a black gold coating. The Caliber HUB4104 is made in house and beats at 4Hz (28,800 Vph). The movement represents an amazing leap in innovative watchmaking. The chronograph on this model is able to time any event up to 12 hours via the central chronograph seconds hand and the chronograph hours and minutes subdials at 6 and 3 respectively. Located at 4:30 is a date display window.

The dial naturally is also made carbon fiber with the hour markers and hands being crafted from satin finished ruthenium. Ruthenium is noted for its antimagnetic and non-corrosive properties coming from the Platinum series on the periodic table. The hands are skeletonized and offer a luminous coating for the readability at night. Completing this remarkable timepiece is a smooth rubber strap with the Hublot logo engraved on it. The rubber strap is screwed into the case for a tough, secure finish and is clasped with a deployant buckle made from black PVD stainless steel.
