The Muhle family have been residents of the Glashutte area for over 700 years and have been making watches under their family name for 5 generations since 1869. Muhle Glashutte, therefore, is one of an elite group of watchmakers that are not only still independent but are owned by the same founding family. To put this into perspective, there are literally hundreds of manufacturers but only a handful who can boast this. Muhle Glashutte have dedicated their time to measuring time and are responsible for many of the world’s finest instruments that sit on the dashboards of both airplanes and large ships.
The Rasmus 2000 was designed with the help of research divers from the University of Rostock. Together, they teamed up to make sure that the Rasmus 2000 was not only easy to read but was also extremely pressure resistant. In both of these endeavors they excelled and produced one of the most functional diving watches in the world today.
These watches are fashioned from hypoallergenic satin finished stainless steel with protection against magnetic fields. The Rasmus 2000 line measure in at 44mm for the diameter and sit up high on the wrist with a case height of 17.5mm. The bezel is unidirectional which is perfect for the measurement of elapsed time. The bezel also has wide ridges which makes it easy to operate through a wetsuit. Like most diving watches, there is a pearl at the 12 position and color variations demarcating the first 15 minutes. The Rasmus 2000 is named after the patron saint of divers and because this watch can withstand the truly breathtaking pressure of up to 200 ATM (2000 meters). This water resistance can be maintained due to the screw down main crown at 4 and the ultra-thick 3.5mm domed sapphire crystal.
There are 3 dial versions for this watch – black, blue, and orange; each with their own corresponding bezel colorations. Indexes are used with exceptions at the 3, 6, and 9 positions which are rendered in large white Arabic numerals. The indexes, numerals, and hands are generously coated with Super-LumiNova ensuring legibility is maintained regardless of lighting. A date aperture is located at the 4:30 position.
Driving this watch forward is the automatic SW200-1 movement with stop seconds and fast date correction. The movement features a power reserve of 38 hours when fully wound. This watch can be bought with either a black rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet.
