Omega's Planet Ocean Collection

Omega launched the Planet Ocean in 2005 as a series within their legendary Seamaster collection. The Seamaster was first launched in 1948 and has been worn by many legendary mariners including Jacques Cousteau, whose achievements speak for themselves; Commander Yves Le Prieur, who invented the Scuba system; William Beebe, who is famous for the Bathysphere; and the noted free diver – Jacques Mayol (the Dolphin Man), who wore a Seamaster on his record setting dives.

The Planet Ocean has one integral difference to the original Seamaster apart from the aesthetics – this is the usage of the Co-Axial escapement over the traditional lever escapement found in most other watches. Co-Axial escapements provide a freer flow of energy from the main spring to the rest of the watch. This ensures the accuracy of the timepiece while reducing the friction inside of the watch. Another benefit of the Co-Axial movement is the usage of the free sprung balance made from Silicon which is noted for its shock resistant and anti-magnetic properties. All watches fitted with the Co-Axial escapement system are chronometer certified by the COSC.

The Planet Ocean collection is available in three sizes: 37.5mm (lady’s), 42mm (gents), and 45.5mm (gent’s chronograph) and are manufactured in steel, bimetal, and 18kt with or without a diamond option. The unidirectional bezel is black PVD and features engraved Arabic numerals allowing for the effortless measurement of elapsed time while underwater. The bezel also holds a domed, scratch resistant sapphire crystal glare proofed on both sides ensuring the aesthetic appeal of this watch is maintained for longer.

The case also features a screw down main crown at 3 and a helium pressure release valve at 10 o’clock.  Helium release valves are essential to most diving watches as helium gas does build up in watches that are underwater for extended periods. Without a medium to release this gas it can literally destroy the watch from the inside out.

As a diving watch water resistance is important and these models carry 600 meters worth of it. These beautiful timepieces are fitted with your choice of steel bracelets, rubber straps, or leather. The Planet Ocean line from Omega carries an international 4 year warranty from the date of purchase.
