Presenting the Gouverneur From Piaget

Piaget has launched the Gouverneur watch as part of their Black Tie collection. This watch captures the essence of Piaget’s unrelenting desire to produce watches that embody their sense of sophistication and glamor. The most striking thing about the Gouverneur watch is its oval dial shape in the classic round case. This pattern continues in the watch setting the stage for a true horological masterpiece.

The Gouverneur watch from Piaget is crafted from 85.5 grams of 18 karat pink gold with a diameter of 43mm and a case height of a mere 9.2mm. Pink gold has literally taken the watch world by storm as it goes with skin tones better than their counterparts (white and yellow gold) and is structurally more sound because of the copper used which gives it its distinct color. The case is both polished and satin finished giving this amazing watch texture.

The dial is silvered and features a flying tourbillon at 12. Flying tourbillons aren’t confined by a carriage and when in motion are the personification of the word tourbillon which is French for ‘whirlwind’. As with most tourbillons, the aperture is also home to a small seconds indicator. On the opposite side of the dial is an astronomical moon phase subdial with a rose gold hand indicating the cycle of Earth’s single companion. The gear train for the moon phase is so precise that it will only be off by one day every 122 years. Piaget uses rose gold, dauphine hours and minutes hands and applied rose gold indexes for the hour markers.

The mechanical manual wound movement is ultra-thin with a total height of 4mm. This is a remarkable feat given the complications in this watch. The caliber 642P movement can be seen through an exhibition case back revealing the detailing and aesthetic richness of this modern day masterpiece.

The strap is made from brown alligator leather which is hand sewn. The leather strap is secured with a folding clasp. This gorgeous timepiece is water resistant to 30 meters (3 Bars).
