The Rolex Submariner Dives Deep

One of the more popular choices from the Rolex brand, this timepiece has embodied the essence of ruggedness and reliability. The Rolex Submariner has maintained its timeless design since its release in 1953. Designed as the ultimate diving watch, the Submariner carries an air of excellence that is virtually unequalled in the world of horology.

The Submariner was the very first wrist watch to feature a water resistance of 100 meters or 330 feet. This feat was accomplished through the use of the Oyster case, which employed a screw locked main crown and screwed in case back. Today, the Rolex Submariner boasts a water resistance of 300 meters (1000 feet), which is in keeping with modern standards.

The case is made in 18kt yellow gold and carries a diameter of just 40mm. By contemporary standards this is mid-sized for a gentleman and is not considered trend; but this only cements the fact that this brand is not in the business of following trends but only in creating masterpieces that foster dreams. The case is brushed and is crafted from a single block of 18kt gold. As with all serious diving watches, this model uses a unidirectional bezel for the measurement of elapsed times. The bezel is made from black Cerachrom, which is scratch resistant.

The dial color is black with oversized, yellow gold toned indexes. The hands are typical Rolex styled and are also in yellow gold tone. All of the dial elements are generously coated with Chromalight for optimal legibility at night. The Rolex Submariner comes with or without a date aperture at the 3 o’clock.

This movement is driven by the in house 3135 Rolex movement. This automatic movement is officially COSC Certified. COSC Certification essentially means that the watch has been tested in different positions, under different scenarios checking for large variances in the time. The oscillating rotor can wind the watch in both directions. The Submariner features the iconic three piece Oyster bracelet. The bracelet carries an extension link for wear with Scuba gear.
