The Luminor GMT was first created as a watch that could stand up to the harsh environments of the open seas. The GMT portion of its moniker pays tribute to the Greenwich Meridian, which was essential in almost every calculation and ultimately their survival. Today, the Luminor GMT 44 is among the most sought after pieces from Officine Panerai. The GMT function allows the wearer to calculate a second time zone while travelling.
The case is made from a single solid block of 18kt rose gold, which aids in the overall durability of this timepiece. The case is smaller than the original Luminor GMT with dimensions of 44mm. The Luminor GMT 44mm is fitted with a self-winding mechanical movement caliber Panerai OP VIII. This performance movement features a Glucydur balance wheel, which oscillates at 4 Hz. Protecting againsts damage caused by shocks is an Incabloc system. The movement also carries 42 hours of power reserve once fully wound. This timepiece from Panerai is officially certified a chronometer by the COSC, which guarantees a daily variance of just +4/-6 seconds.
The black dial boasts luminous Arabic numeral hour markers at 12 and 6, and luminous indexes at the other positions. Around the flange is a graduated 24 hour scale used to indicate the second time zone. A date aperture marks the 3 position, while the continuous seconds register is found at 9. The Panerai Luminor GMT 44mm is protected by a manufacturer’s warranty valid for two years from the date of purchase.
