The Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon Asymétrique

Greubel Forsey is a relatively young company that is this year only 10 years old. The company was founded by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, who have been working together for the past 20 years. This duo began to work on new and improved tourbillons specifically designed to improve the accuracy of the mechanical watch. The Double Tourbillon Asymétrique featured here, uses the first invention from the team of Greubel and Forsey – The Double Tourbillon 30 degree. This Tourbillon features one tourbillon rotating inside of the other, set in a carriage, and angled at 30 degrees.

The Double Tourbillon Asymétrique is crafted in 18kt white gold brushed and polished for contrast and depth. The asymmetrical case measures in at 43.5mm for the diameter and sits high on the wrist with a case thickness of 16.13mm. A curved lateral window at the 7 o’clock position reveals the double tourbillon. The prominent main crown is ridged making for easy winding and for the adjustment of the time.

The case back features a sapphire crystal that is shaped precisely to the parameters of the case. The balance wheel is displayed here, as well as, the blued stainless steel screws holding the 2/3 main plate to the movement. The words “Proto 2” and “Greubel Forsey” are displayed on the main plate.

The dial features a unique power reserve indicator at the 2 o’clock position with a fixed red triangle and an internal rotating disk. When fully wound, this model carries a power reserve of 72 hours. At the 6 position there is a small seconds register equipped with a red triangular indicator. The seconds indicator keeps perfect time and is synced with the outer tourbillon. The hours and minutes hands are crafted from white gold as are the applied Arabic numerals marking the hours.

The Greubel Forsey masterpiece is fitted with a black alligator leather and classic ardillon buckle. Protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal selected for its highly scratch resistant nature. The Double Tourbillon Asymétrique is made in a limited edition series of 11 pieces in white gold, and a further 11 pieces in red gold.
