Zenith's El Primero Striking 10th Limited Edition

Zenith was founded by Georges Favre-Jacot in 1865. The founder was the first in the world to unite all of the various watchmaking artisans creating the very first Manufacture. This set the stage for watchmaking as we know it today. Later on in the brands history, Zenith launched the famous El Primero movement which has become the heart and soul of many of today’s most iconic watches.

The Striking 10th Limited Edition is fitted with an El Primero movement Calibre 4052 B, which beats at the extra ordinary rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz). This rate of vibrations allows the watch to time smaller intervals of seconds, thus, giving a greater degree of accuracy to the timepiece. The movement is self-winding and has a minimum of 50 hours power reserve. The oscillation rotor is decorated with Cotes de Genève and features an 18kt gold, 5 pointed star which is the brand’s logo.

The dial is silvered and is finely brushed featuring luminous indexes for the hour markers, and luminous hands for the hours and minutes. The chronograph features a central 1/10 of a second hand in red with the brands logo as the counter weight.  The chronograph seconds and chronograph minutes are located at the 3, and 6 o’clock positions respectively. At the 9 o’clock position is a small seconds register. Visually the most striking thing about the dial is the color coded subdials in grey, black, and blue. A large date aperture can be found at 6 for quick referencing.

The case of the striking 10th is forged from solid stainless steel, which is brushed at the lugs and polished at the bezel giving this timepiece depth. The case carries dimensions of 42mm (diameter), and 12.75mm (thickness). The case back is of the exhibition variety evincing the spectacular El Primero movement. Protecting the dial is a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. This watch is water resistant to 10 ATM (100 meters). This watch is fitted with an alligator leather strap with a protective rubber lining and is secured with a stainless steel triple folding clasp. The El Primero Striking 10th is limited to 1969 pieces which commemorates the year in which the movement was first released.
