The name Ebel is an acronym for Eugene Blum Et Levy – the duo who first created this fascinating brand just over a century ago back in 1911. The case is sculpted from stainless steel which uses black PVD. PVD or Phosphor Vapor Deposition binds the plating at an atomic level, thus, negating the risk of the plated element chipping or wearing away over time. The dial on the 1216125 is black and features applied indexes for the hour markers. The hands on this model are diamond shaped complementing the smooth lines of the 1216125. The hour markers and hands are silver toned which stands out wonderfully against the black dial. There is no lume on these elements which can make reading the dial in low light conditions difficult. A small date display window is located at the 3 o’clock position completing the dial.
This handsome gent’s timepiece is powered by a Swiss made automatic movement which works by the movement of the wrist. Protecting against scratches on the dial window is a sapphire crystal which is ranked a 9 on the MoH’s scale of hardness (Diamond is ranked 10). Probably the most eye-catching aspect of this watch is the shiny blue alligator strap which secures this watch with the help of a classic pin buckle made from black PVD stainless steel.
