Swiss watchmaker Zenith has just unveiled a timepiece in honor of one of the NBA’s emerging stars – Russell Westbrook. Officially named the Zenith Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar tribute to Russell Westbrook, this timepiece is made in only a series of 5 pieces. In fact, it is 6 but the last one will be given to Westbrook as a gift. On top of that, the 5 piece series will only be available for purchase at the Westime jewelers in Los Angeles.
Zenith launched a press release stating that Westbrook, who is a point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder and an Olympic gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympics, was a major influence on the design of the eponymous watch. Fans of the brand and the Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar Collection would know that there are in fact, very few aesthetic differences apart from the color scheme.
The Russell Westbrook Edition is featured in polished stainless steel with a 48mm case diameter. The case also features a prominent onion crown and flat, textured chronograph pushers on either side. The horned lugs hold securely the dark blue alligator leather strap decorated with orange contrast stitching.
The case back on this exclusive timepiece is solid with a depiction of Russell Westbrook in action superimposed on a basketball. The NBA Star’s signature can also be found there also. Inscribed on the case back is “Zenith Flying Instruments” and “Russell Westbrook”. On the middle case can be found the limited edition number X/5. The water resistance on this watch is rated at 100 meters, making this great for everyday usage.
The blue dial carries large Arabic numerals and oversized hands allowing for exceptional readability. The hour markers and hands feature Super-LumiNova® for legibility during low light conditions. The calendar on this model is displayed through apertures at the 3 and 6 positions. The chronograph uses an orange central hand for the chronograph seconds and a counter at 6 for the chronograph minutes. At the 9 position is the continuous seconds counter for this watch.
Over the dial is a domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal, which has been glare-proofed adding to the exceptional legibility of the Zenith Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar Russell Westbrook. Powering this model is the exclusive El Primero 4054 self-winding mechanical movement, which features a high frequency of 36,600 VpH, and a power reserve of 50 hours.
