The Speake Marin Spirit Mark II DLC

Since the brand’s launch back in 2002, Speake Marin has been at the forefront of horology with their breathtaking designs and noteworthy passion for watchmaking excellence. At the helm of this brand is Peter Speake Marin who is an English watchmaker and enthusiast for things that will stand the test of time. It is this maxim that has led him to develop the brand, which has risen up the ranks to be such a respected and sought after manufacturer.

The Mark II DLC from the Spirit collection is made from stainless steel, coated with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon). This coating not only gives the steel its distinctive black hue but also strengthens the metal to withstand mild impacts, which can cause scratching. The case comes in at 42mm not including the prominent diamond shaped main crown, and sits 12mm above the wrist. The case is made from three separate pieces in the coveted Picadilly style. The case back is solid and it features the mantra – “Fight, Love, and Persevere”.

Speake Marin timepieces can be easily recognized by their lugs, which normally hold a leather strap. On the Mark II DLC there is a black calfskin leather. This timepiece is by far not the dressiest offering from Speake Marin but it is one of the most everyday watches from this esteemed brand. Since its launch last year, the Mark II DLC has been doing quite well.

The dial uses both indexes and Roman numerals for the hour markers, and a conservative flange for the minute track. All of the markers on this dial are coated with Super-LumiNova for optimal readability at night. The hands are all PVD coated black with lume on the tips. The crystal protecting the dial is made from sapphire crystal with glare proofing on both sides.

Powering this stunning timepiece is the self-winding movement caliber TT738. This automatic movement features a 4-5 day power reserve. Although many contemporary movements use winding systems that wind in both directions, Speake Marin has a unidirectional winding system in its movement. However, the watch still manages to maintain a VpH of 28,800.
