The Ralph Lauren Sporting Collection Tourbillon RL67

Ralph Lauren is a leading brand in the world for their apparel, fragrances, and accessories. So it was no surprise when I saw that they had a watch collection. What did surprise me though, is that they had in their arsenal a tourbillon.

This is, by no means, the first time a leading fashion house has forayed into horology, with noted designers like Versace, Michael Kors, Fendi, and many others producing and being rather successful with their respective collections. However, most don’t get into Haute Horlogerie. It seems though that Ralph Lauren was more than equal to the challenge.

The Ralph Lauren Sporting Collection Tourbillon RL67 has a character all its own (which I like), there is no discernible ‘borrowing’ of ideas from other more established watch manufacturers. This timepiece carries a 50 meter water resistance, and is fitted with a brown alligator leather strap with ardillon buckle. The ample bezel features 6 screws.

The case is crafted from gunmetal finished stainless steel with a 44.8mm case diameter. The case height is only 11.2mm, which is pretty impressive. Ralph Lauren cuts down on the thickness by incorporating a micro-rotor in the movement. This model features an exhibition case back, secured with 6 screws, with which the wearer can admire the self-winding movement.

The movement is comprised of 145 parts and carries an autonomy of 38 hours. The caliber RL67 automatic movement features a tourbillon, which rotates once every 60 seconds. The balance wheel oscillates at 28,800 VpH. Decorating this movement is vertical Côtes de Genève striations.

The dial is black and features white Roman numerals hour markers, and a minutes scale on the flange. The hands are sword shaped and luminous for reading the time at night. At the 6 position incorporated into the tourbillon is a small seconds indicator.
