The Perrelet Turbine XL Red

The color red breathes new life into Perrelet’s Turbine XL, implying a sense of energy, strength and fearlessness. The 48mm case makes a bold statement and comes in two versions – an all-black, PVD-coated stainless steel and a two-toned model with titanium case middle and a black PVD-coated bezel. Each is paired with a black rubber bracelet — fitted with a steel tang type clasp — which conveys a high-end, modern feel, yet allows the overall design aesthetic to pay homage to the classic look Perrelet is most famous for.

The Turbine XL is fitted with a transparent case backing allowing the wearer to admire the self-winding, Swiss-made P-331 movement inside, which promises a 42-hour power reserve. The draw of this watch, however, is the double rotor system that gives the watch its unique look. The double rotor system couples a traditional rotor with a secondary rotor positioned in the center of the dial; doing this provides superior winding performance, which is a definite advantage. For the Turbine models, however, a 12 blade wheel was introduced, which, when contrasting colors are used, makes for a stunning optical effect.

A three-handed watch, the dial of the Turbine XL is highlighted by black, dauphine hour and minute hands, while the seconds hand is a contrasting bright red. Luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers are printed on the inner bezel ring, as is a minute track. The bezel has notches around the outer edge in ten minute increments. A push-pull crown just barely projects from the side of the case, keeping the lines of this piece clean and modern.

Rated water resistant to 50 meters, the Turbine XL can withstand daily wear, but is not recommended for water activities. Despite that, it is sure to turn many heads with its sophisticated and sporty appeal.
