People for years have been fans of the Constellation series from Omega. Originally named because of the predictability of the constellations, this line of watches is easily recognized because of the ‘griffes’ or claws that have been a design staple since the 80’s. The Constellation Double Eagle represents the next phase in the Constellation story.
The Omega Constellation Double Eagle model comes in stainless steel in a gent’s size of 41mm for the diameter and sits relatively flat with a 12.4mm thickness. The Double Eagle has a stationary bezel in black with bold Arabic numerals in silver tone for contrast. The case back is made from sapphire crystal which reveals the automatic movement.
The movement used in this watch is the Omega caliber 3313 which employs a column wheel mechanism for the precise and smooth operation of the chronograph. One of the more important features of the Double Eagle is the presence of a free sprung balance wheel. Free-sprung balances have a fixed-length hairspring, and thus, the rate is adjusted by changing the inertia of the balance itself by moving weights (screws and such) either out from the center (increasing inertia and slowing rate) or in towards the center (decreasing inertia and increasing rate). This movement boasts a power reserve of 52 hours. As with many Omega watches, a co-axial escapement is used for greater precision and stability.
Omega uses a dome shaped sapphire crystal with glare proofing on both sides. Sapphire crystals are scratch resistant and will ensure the aesthetic value of the timepiece lasts longer. The dial is black and is guilloche with a very eye-catching waffle design. This watch from Omega also carries a chronograph with the black lever pushers located above and below the ridged main crown. The minute track is well defined and stands out against the dial. Completing the dial is a date aperture at the 6 o’clock position.
The Omega Constellation Double Eagle is outfitted with a high quality black rubber strap which is adjustable and is secured with a single deployant or folding clasp. This model is water resistant to a solid 100 meters (330 feet) therefore making it a great everyday watch.
