The New Breitling Galactic 44

Breitling has just released a brand new timepiece from their Windrider collection called the Breitling Galactic 44. This timepiece stands out in their collection as it has both a date aperture at 3 and a day aperture with the indication spelled out completely. No doubt, this addition is to effectively compete with Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual Day-Date President. The watch is crafted in the style of Breitling, with all of the features that we’ve come to expect from this esteemed Swiss watchmaker.

The dial option for this timepiece is just royal ebony, but it does feature nicely salmon-toned Super-LumiNova sword-shaped hands and indexes. The color of the lume really does so much for the overall aesthetics of the watch. The vaulted flange carries a 100th of a second scale. Protecting the dial is a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, which has been glare-proofed to offer the maximum in legibility under all conditions.

As the name might suggest, the Breitling Galactic 44 is indeed 44mm wide, and it rises off of the wrist at 14.3mm for its brushed and polished stainless steel case. The bezel is unidirectional and ratcheted, and it clicks 120 times in a full revolution. Unidirectional bezels are traditionally used for diving, so that the diver can measure dive times and oxygen consumption. The Breitling Galactic 44 is water resistant to 200 meters, which is ideal for water-based activities. In addition to the unidirectional bezel, this model also features a screw-locked crown. Strap options for this timepiece include a military strap, diver pro strap, leather, or a pilot’s bracelet.

Powering this model is the self-winding Breitling 45 caliber. This movement carries a power reserve of 42 hours, and vibrates at a frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 VpH. As with all Breitling watches, the Breitling Galactic 44 is certified a chronometer by the COSC.
