Armand Nicolet watches started production in 1902 when company founder Armand Nicolet opened his workshop in Tramelan which is a small mountain village in the Jura Mountains. It was here that Armand Nicolet learned the craft of fine watchmaking.
The L06 from Armand Nicolet is a stunning example of fine watchmaking. This watch effortlessly captures the meaning of the Swiss watch trade with many clear examples of the techniques used in contemporary horology. The L06 comes in two versions – a polished stainless steel and a limited edition of 50 pieces in 18 karat rose gold.
The dial of both versions use a beautiful open work design which shows off the balance wheel at 9 and the small seconds on a subdial at 6. ‘Tramelan’ is honored on the dial just below the trademark of Armand Nicolet. The dial comes in grey and is guilloche in a ‘rays of the sun’ pattern. The skeletonized dauphine hands are in silver tone for the steel and rose gold tone for the limited version as are the indexes and minute markers. There is no luminescence which can make this watch difficult to read in low light conditions.
The L06 uses antireflective sapphire crystal for the dial window and also for the exhibition case back which features a movement that is highly decorated. The movement is the UT176 and is a retake on the Calibre AN 0501 from 1951. This movement like its predecessor is mechanical manual wound with 17 jewels and a maximum of 34 hours of power reserve.
These gent’s timepieces are fitted with a black alligator strap for the stainless steel version and grey for the rose gold and have been saddle stitched in white for contrast and are secured to the wrist by a classic tang type buckle. The bezel is fixed while the main crown is fluted for perfect maneuverability while winding the watch or setting the time. The case dimensions are 43mm for the diameter and 10mm for the case thickness. The L06 is water resistant to 50 meters (5 ATM) which is perfect for daily wear and can withstand light splashes of water or light rain.
