The Girard Perregaux 1966 Enamel Collection

The 1966 Enamel Collection from Girard Perregaux is comprised of three breathtaking models, one hand-painted on a ceramic canvas, and the other two using cloisonné enameling. Each piece is crafted by hand, utilizing a skill that has been passed down, relatively unchanged, through the ages.

Each of the three watches features a unique dial design. The first is a tribute to the Arabian Pur Sang, where a handsome chestnut stallion is portrayed, proudly looking back over his shoulder towards the wearer. This model features miniature painting on the ceramic canvas. The next two from the 1966 collection feature topographies of Eurasia, Africa, and Australia. However, the last two take the enameling process a step further by employing the cloisonné method.

This enameling process is where the artist first lays out ultra-thin gold wire in the desired shape, then fills in the design using enamel paints, at times using a microscope for the utmost precision. Daunting to think that a few too many seconds in the kiln could ruin such an exquisite piece! To discern the difference between the topographical portraits, look to the hue of the ocean. One features a deep blue ocean, whereas the next is highlighted by a sky blue ocean.

Outside of the enameling, each dial is adorned with diamond accented hour markers and rose gold-toned feuille hands. The rose gold case measures 40mm and has a polished finish, the perfect complement to any of the dials. A black, alligator leather strap with an ardillon clasp rounds out the look of the pieces in this collection. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial and resists scratches on this model. Water resistance on this collection is 30 meters or three ATM.

A transparent sapphire crystal case back grants the wearer a peek into the heart of each of these timepieces: the GP03300 a mechanical, self-winding movement with a 46-hour power reserve.

This collection is limited to just 50 of each design and will probably only be found in Girard Perregaux boutiques around the world.
