The Bremont Codebreaker

Late last year, Bremont unveiled a totally new model called the Codebreaker, made in honor of Bletchley Park. Bremont and the Bletchley Park Trust have collaborated on this historical and horological one of a kind piece. This timepiece uses original artifacts from Hut 6, which was the Center of Operations devoted to breaking the Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht enigmas used by the Germans in WWII. The Bremont Codebreaker is also the first watch to combine a GMT and a Flyback chronograph in the same watch. The Codebreaker will be released in two limited edition versions. 240 examples will be made in stainless steel, while just 60 examples will be released in 18kt rose gold.

This model is made in dimensions of 43mm for the diameter, and is slightly thick with a case diameter of 15mm. The distance lug to lug is 22mm, this fits a large luxuriant black leather strap. The case uses Bremont’s famous Trip Tick case construction and the inner barrel is treated with a punch card limited edition number made from material taken from Bletchley Park. The main crown is also inlaid with pinewood from Hut 6. Hand-etched sapphire crystal is fitted on the case back, allowing the wearer to admire the beauty of the movement.

The movement used is an automatic BE-83AR which carries a Glucydur balance wheel, and a Nivarox mainspring. The balance wheel alternates at 28,800 VpH. Protecting the movement from damages incurred by shocks is an Incabloc system. The oscillating rotor is inspired by the Bombe machine and is fitted with original parts from a German Enigma Rotor. The Bremont Codebreaker features 46 hours of power reserve.

The dial is black on both variations and is made from etched metal. The hands are made from brass and are coated with lume for the reading of time at night. Bremont uses large Arabic numerals for the hour markers and features a date display at the 6 o’clock position. On the flange, resides the GMT counter , which is indicated by a central GMT hand. This hand is easily identified by its bold red arrow head tip. The continuous seconds subdial is located at 8, while the chronograph minutes can be found at 4. This chronograph has a Flyback function, where successive events can be timed without stopping the chronograph. The Bremont Codebreaker is water resistant to 10 Bars (100 meters).
