For the first time in ten years, Baume et Mercier has designed a new line of watches. One of fourteen pieces in this collection, the Swiss-made Promesse 10160 blends ultra-feminine and modern finishes with a nod to vintage styling to make a distinguished timepiece that is simultaneously elegant and refined.
This polished stainless steel beauty features a round 30mm case set with a fixed, ovular bezel, which is specific to this particular line. The overall thickness of this timepiece is a slim 7.4mm, which seems slight, but the heft of the solid stainless steel case serves as a constant reminder of the watch’s presence on the wrist. The bezel is embellished by 30 round brilliant diamonds with Top Wesselton color and VS clarity. The combination of steel and diamonds provides an interesting visual juxtaposition of femininity and strength. A push pull crown protrudes minimally from the side of the case; with its polished finish, it can barely be discerned as separate from the bezel and case.
The analog dial of the Promesse 10160 is highlighted by a unique, white, mother of pearl inlay. A pattern of concentric waves, referred to as drapé, radiates from the center of the dial, adding just the right amount of visual interest without becoming distracting. Brightly polished, rhodium-toned, matchstick-shaped indexes and Roman numerals mark the hours. The Dauphine-shaped hands are also rhodium toned for a luxurious aesthetic. A domed, anti-glare sapphire crystal covers the dial, offering maximum protection from scratches.
The polished stainless steel bracelet lends an element of durability, and is secured to the wrist using a triple fold over, deployant safety clasp. Fashioned of various sized links, the bracelet makes a lovely complement to the overall aesthetic of the watch. Behind the solid case back, a Swiss-made quartz movement keeps the 10160 accurate and reliable. The Promesse 10160 is rated water-resistant to 50 meters. This watch became available for purchase early in September, this year.
