Hysek IO Jumping Hour Limited Edition

Though this watch isn’t front page news anymore as it was released back in 2009, it is one noteworthy timepiece that essentially broadened the scope of contemporary watchmaking. The Hysek IO Jumping Hour is offered in a few different case variations but today Watch Marvel focuses on the Limited Edition model crafted in 18kt rose gold, which was released at Baselworld only last year.

This model, which is limited in its production to a very exclusive series of 30 pieces, has many powerful aesthetic properties that set this timepiece apart from all others. It is important to note that Jorg Hysek, the brains behind this operation, is an architect by profession and though this watch is technically sound the wondrousness of the IO jumping hour lies in the unique fashion with which it displays the time.

The time is indicated by a jumping hours and a jumping minutes complication. Jumping minutes or hours rotate on a disc that slides into an aperture which highlights the current hour or minute. On the IO jumping Hour Limited Edition, the time is shown through two elongated sickle shaped windows, which are open worked hinting at the movement within. Each aperture is labeled to allow the wearer to make sense of this simple yet complex dial layout. At the 3 position towards the center, Hysek proclaims this piece to be a limited edition. At the center of the dial is a day/night indicator.

The case is sized at a supreme 47mm and is fitted with a black alligator leather strap. The fashionable lugs are ribbed for an eye-catching design element to this amazing timepiece from Hysek. The case is fully polished and it carries a textured main crown for the easy adjustment of the time. Powering this model is a self-winding automatic caliber.
