Frederique Constant Heart Beat Manufacture Calibre FC-945 Silicium

Since 2004, when Frederique Constant released the first Hear Beat Manufacture, each year this Swiss brand has added a brand new model to its ranks and have pushed the boundaries of modern watchmaking. This year at Baselworld, Frederique Constant unveiled the newest installment to its Heart Beat collection with the new Calibre FC-945 Silicium. Silicium is made from silicon, which is noted by experts in metallurgy for its antimagnetic and non-corrosive properties. One of the defining characteristics of all of the Heart Beat watches has been the oversized aperture displaying the balance wheel at 6 o’clock.

This year’s model is offered in either stainless steel or 18kt rose gold. The 18kt rose gold edition is limited in production to only 188 models, while the stainless steel version will be created to just 1888 pieces. The cases are highly polished, and they feature double tiered vaulted bezels. In keeping with the dressy aesthetic is a gorgeous onion styled main crown. Both versions are fitted with brown alligator leather, with the stainless steel version having white contrast stitching for a slightly sportier look. The case back is exhibition styled using a transparent sapphire crystal for the viewing and admiration of the decorated Swiss made self-winding movement. These models carry a well-proportioned case size of 42mm.

The automatic movement Calibre FC-945 uses a balance wheel, and an escapement made from silicium. Silicium does not require lubrication and is very light, which means the inertial force acting on the balance wheel is kept to a minimum – this increases accuracy and energy efficiency.

The dial is silvered and it features a textured Clous de Paris inner dial, and Côtes de Genève finishing’s around the balance wheel aperture. Frederique Constant uses blued steel screws at the 4 and 5 positions, and black steel Roman numeral hour markers on the remaining positions. Also in black steel are the classy Breguet styled hands. At the 9 position is a 24 hour subdial. At 12 is a shared counter with a moonphase aperture and an analog date indicator. This timepiece from Frederique Constant is perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing, innovative, and technologically advanced watch of the collection.
