Breitling's New Superocean M2000 Makes A Splash

This watch from Breitling is new for 2013, and is packed with features that aren’t exactly new to the brand but come together nicely in the Superocean M2000. Case-wise, the watch comes only in surgical stainless steel and carries oversized dimensions of 46mm excluding the main crown and chronograph pushpieces. The watch is quite thick with a case height of 19.10mm.

The main crown and pushers are both screwed down and equipped with 2 gaskets enhancing the water resistance of this piece. It is this feature, the water resistance, which sets aside this Breitling watch from all the others. This model carries an astounding water resistance of 2000 meters (6600 feet). In addition, the chronograph on this diving watch can be operated while underwater.

The chronograph on this timepiece is of the 1/10 of a second variety and can time events up to 12 hours. The chronograph minute subdial is located at the 6 o’clock position. This chronograph measures splits times by means of a Flyback split time chrono-seconds hand. The dial comes in black on all versions with the only difference coming in the rings around all three registers. The versions available are black, red, blue, green and white. The date aperture is located at the 4:30 position for quick referencing.

Breitling uses the reliable and accurate Caliber 73 in this model. Caliber 73 is powered by SuperQuartz which is patented by Breitling. As with all Breitlings, the M2000 is chronometer certified by the COSC. Traditionally, only mechanical watches were certified until Breitling released the SuperQuartz movement which only gains or loses 15 seconds per year. In essence, SuperQuartz watches from Breitling are 10 times as accurate as any other quartz watch on the market. The SuperQuartz movement is so accurate because of a thermo-compensation feature. The battery on this watch is guaranteed to last for 3 years.

The ratcheted bezel is black ion plated and is unidirectional serving as a timer which measures elapsed time. Another great feature on this watch is the fast action time zone change. The crystal is made with sapphire, chosen for its highly scratch resistant properties. Breitling also applies glare proofing on both sides of the cambered crystal ensuring perfect legibility under all conditions. This timepiece offers a variety of strap options such as leather, professional (stainless steel). Ocean Racer (rubber with deployant clasp), and Diver Pro (rubber with tang type buckle).  The Superocean M2000 is guaranteed for 2 years from the date of purchase and retails worldwide for USD $4,780 on the Diver Pro rubber strap.
